On the Cusp of Newness

Some moments feel charged with possibility as we look into the future. Sometimes we have an unexplainable excitement for the unknown. And sometimes this can be mixed with worry; the paradox of fear and joy while heading towards something that is not familiar.

For centuries, humans have sought to try new things, pursue unknown quests, and forge new paths in technology, exploration, and life. It invigorates us, excites, and can be utterly stressful.

Life changes (big or small) are forks in the path for us. They can loom over our heads as we analyze what could happen if we fail. Or they can excite us to the point where we wish things could happen faster.

I am standing on the cusp of "the new" right now, and I am sure many of you are in one way or another, too.

How is it possible to balance the excitement, worry, and nerves? I had that thought this morning as I pulled out of the driveway with the sun just barely lighting the sky. My body felt electrified by the thought of the future, and my head swam with worries of failure.

Here is a quote that I came across today regarding this: "The unknown is not your enemy. It is the space where new paths appear, new strength rises, and new chapters begin." — Unknown

We do not have to let worries overwhelm our excitement and gratitude for simply living. Here is another thought that has helped me: every day is a new beginning, but so is every moment.

Nothing will ever be just how we picture it or imagine it, but we cannot let our fears take away our joy. Why? Well, let me point to some verses:

1.) Psalm 94:19 (NIV)

“When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.”

2.) Psalm 16:11 (ESV)

“You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”

Being on the cusp of life-changes is a rollercoaster of emotions, but when we get closer to taking that step, we have to remember who is with us and who strengthens us. As I get closer to becoming a wife, I am so excited for the road ahead & ready to step into this chapter with an amazing man beside me. It will be a whole new era of my life.

I need to remember to keep the joy of the Lord, not let worries cloud my head, and be open to what God will teach me through this life transition as I anticipate it.

To anyone who may be approaching their own life-change, allow yourself to be excited. Allow yourself to bask in the transition and prepare for the next season. Ask God to prepare your heart and cover you if you are prone to letting anxiety steal moments from you.

Being on the cusp of a new season is beautiful. We get to uncover relationships, try new jobs, push ourselves out of our comfort zones, and so much more. Let this season beforehand be one of joy and peace. Focus on what God has done for You and where He is taking You now.
